Events
a training/refresher session for Voter Service volunteers on Thursday evening August 19, 6 P.M. at the League office. Everyone who is interested in helping with the many fall candidate forums, whether on KEET or in the community, is encouraged to attend. With 10 ballot propositions on tap for November, there will be a Pros & Cons presentation, and in addition, Carol’s teams will offer voter registration and information at the North Country Fair in September. Experienced workers can help by adding perspective for the first-time volunteers. Join us for information, good cheer and light refreshments.

Bring a friend—or the name of a friend—who might be a good match for the League (that would be any citizen of voting age). Sometimes it’s difficult to coordinate people and places, so bring a potential member, if he or she can fit the date into their schedule, or come and visit with other League members and just bring the name and contact information for potential Leaguers, and we will invite them to a wine and cheese in October and introduce them to the wonders of the League of Women Voters.
We plan to have an exciting meeting with good food, friendship and a great panel to discuss the economic impacts on Humboldt County if the marijuana proposition passes in November. We have invited three speakers: Supervisor Mark Lovelace, investigative journalist Ryan Burns from the North Coast Journal, and activist Anna Hamilton from Southern Humboldt to share with us their knowledge about marijuana legalization, and the economic impacts it may have to our county.
